The galleries and rooms of Monthaven, which once served as a field hospital during the Civil War, now exist to create vibrant artistic and cultural experiences for people of all ages. By purchasing an art plate, you can support arts organizations, schools and communities in Tennessee. This workshop on molds for scratching and pouring iron is organized by Engage Kingsport and the Kingsport Office of Cultural Arts at the Inventor Center located at 118 Shelby Street, and is made possible by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission. In approximately an hour and a half, attendees participating in this workshop will be able to make a sand mold with their design that will then be filled with cast iron, forming a lasting positive image of the metal. Being part of the Monthaven art community has been a blessing and a basis for my family to acclimate to the city. There's art for everyone in our intimate galleries.
